Fake “Skins”
Most television shows these days are filled with lots of drama and humor. Upon watching the preview for the show Skins I found it tempting and interesting, so I watched it. Come on, who doesn’t want to watch a show filled with “Teens, sex, drugs and drama.” Oh, but how I was disappointed…. During the first few minutes I found it fairly humoring and charming in someway. Then as it progressed the main character began to annoy me in with his nonchalant and ignorant speech. He talked to at least 5 friends on the phone one after the other, planning a way to get his friend to lose his virginity or as they said “Cherry getting popped* and remember….we’re still talking about a guy here. He also continued to state how pathetic it would be for his friend to not lose his virginity before turning 16. At this point the show actually made me feel disappointment and anger because they were in fact making the high school myth of young guys that don’t get laid are most likely pathetic.
The show became even more unwatchable as they introduced some crazy girl that would need narcotics to be able to take his friends virginity. The friend also borrowed a pretty big amount of weed from a dealer and they all end up losing it by accidently sinking it in the ocean along with a car they stolen earlier. These kids are still around 17 and there lives seem to be filled with only sex, drugs and drama. Yeah I watched the show with intention of seeing that. However this show is way to far off and fake to even like it.
As university student who just graduated from high school I can say that not even college students act like that. It’s down right too hyped up to meet a young teenagers expectations. Yes we were informed of this in the previews and most dramas on Tv these days all have these farce acts but this show had way to much icing for the cupcake to handle. The fake fronts made by the characters made the show unbearable to watch. Yes I suppose the characters do have more developing to go through as the series progresses but the first episode has made me strongly dislike these characters to begin with. There interpretation of high school life is way to far fetch to be enjoyed and the naïve and pompous attitude of these kids just plain and simple pisses me off. This is even a show that not all teenagers will want to relate to or enjoy. So don’t waste your time watching this over the top soap opera because you will be greatly disappointed.
